Finland and Czechia could also challenge for a medal, depending on their final rosters and goaltending. Our dedicated 2027 World Junior Championship Predictions page covers medal predictions, awards, and the final 1-10 standings. We’ll update these predictions as official rosters are announced.

Who will win the 2027 World Junior Championship?

Team Canada will win the 2027 World Junior Championship. The host nation has the tournament’s deepest defense, led by Landon DuPont, the projected first overall pick in 2027. Daily Faceoff called it probably the deepest blue line at the event after the summer showcase.

2027 World Junior Championship medal predictions with Canada gold, Sweden silver and USA bronze

Caleb Desnoyers and Braeden Cootes are playing in the AHL, bringing professional-level experience to the junior stage. Cole Reschny led Canada in the summer tournament. In goal, Jack Ivankovic holds a 4-0-0 record with a .931 save percentage while playing for Michigan.

Sweden is the biggest threat as defending champions. But the Swedes lost four top forwards to the NHL: Anton Frondell, Victor Eklund, Viggo Bjorck, and Ivar Stenberg. No team replaces that much scoring in one tournament.

We predict Canada will win gold, Sweden silver, and the United States bronze. These are early predictions based on projected team strength and may change once the final rosters are confirmed.

2027 World Junior Championship Predictions

  • Gold Medal (Canada): Canada will win gold because of its deep roster, strong goaltending, high-end NHL prospects, and home-ice advantage in Alberta.
  • Silver Medal (Sweden): The defending champions are our silver-medal pick. Sweden’s recent success and strong player development make it a serious contender to reach the final again.
  • Bronze Medal (USA): The Americans look like medal contenders without question after last year’s quarterfinal exit. Wyatt Cullen, Chase Reid, and Ethan Wyttenbach form an intact core with revenge motivation.
  • The Czechia question: Czechia chases a fifth straight medal, but the quarterfinal draw is cruel. Our bracket has Finland ending that streak in the quarterfinals. If Czechia wins that game instead, they take bronze over the USA.

Group A Winner Prediction

The USA team will win Group A at the Marchant Crane Centrium in Red Deer, Alberta. Sweden lost four top forwards (Frondell, Eklund, Bjorck, and Stenberg), and that’s their biggest gap. The Americans have no such gaps. Wyttenbach was the best player at the summer showcase. Cullen and Reid return in bigger roles.

2027 World Junior Championship Group A prediction with USA as the predicted winner

We predict Sweden will finish second, Finland third, Slovakia fourth, and Germany fifth in Group A.

Group B Winner Prediction

Team Canada will win Group B at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. Czechia finishes second, Switzerland third, Norway fourth, and Latvia fifth.

Dark Horse of the 2027 World Juniors

Finland is the dark horse of the IIHF 2027 World Junior Championship. The Finns finished 4th in the 2026 tournament. Their skaters can play with any team in the field. Their roster includes NHL-drafted prospects such as Oliver Suvanto and Oscar Hemming, giving Finland offensive potential.
