Key Players to Watch

Tinus Luc Koblar (C, Toronto Maple Leafs)

Koblar is Norway’s best offensive player. Toronto selected him 64th overall in the 2025 draft and signed him to a three-year entry-level contract. He was named the tournament’s best forward in Division I-A after recording 10 points in 5 games.

Niklas Aaram-Olsen (RW, Vancouver Canucks)

Aaram-Olsen became the second Norwegian ever drafted by the Vancouver Canucks. Vancouver selected him 41st overall in 2026 after he recorded 40 points in 29 games with Örebro’s junior team. He also scored 10 points in Division I-A. He now plays college hockey as a freshman at Boston University.

Mikkel Eriksen (C, New York Rangers)

Eriksen is the responsible two-way center behind Koblar. The Rangers drafted him 111th overall in 2025. He plays senior hockey on loan at Mora IK in HockeyAllsvenskan. He already has senior World Championship experience from last spring.

Maximilliam Vatn Aas (G)

Vatn Aas is the biggest storyline on this roster. He is 17 years old and has never played a minute at the Under-20 Worlds. Both of Norway’s Division I-A goalies aged out, so he will battle Felix Timraz-Westin for the crease.

Casper Kjølmoen (RW)

Kjølmoen went unpicked in the 2026 NHL Draft despite ranking among Norway’s top prospects. He plays for Luleå in Sweden’s junior league and produces at over a point per game. His speed stands out on the forecheck. He is eligible again in 2027, and a strong tournament in Edmonton would help his case.

Fredrik Tunge Lunde (D)

Lunde is the team’s most steady defenseman. He returns from the promotion team and now plays senior hockey for Stavanger. His right-handed shot helps the power play. Norway needs his calm minutes against Canada and the Czech Republic.

Team Norway Strengths & Weaknesses

Team Norway 2027 strengths and weaknesses for the World Junior Championship

Strengths

  • Good team experience: Up to nine players from the gold-medal Division I-A squad are eligible to return.
  • NHL-drafted forwards:  Koblar, Aaram-Olsen, and Eriksen bring high-quality talent to the Norwegian attack.
  • Strong Development: Many players develop in Swedish Junior programs like Färjestad, Leksand, and Luleå.
  • Low NHL release risk: Norway’s drafted players all play in Europe or college hockey.

Weaknesses

  • New Goaltending: Both Division I-A goalies are aged out, and the top two options are teenagers.
  • Limited Scoring Depth: Norway may rely heavily on its top forwards for goals.
  • Young Roster: Several players are only 17 or 18 years old and have limited experience at this level.
  • Strong Group: Group B includes Canada and Czechia, two medal favorites.
  • Top-division Challenge: Norway has not kept its top-division spot in back-to-back years since 1989 to 1991.

Norway at Previous World Juniors (History)

Norway has never won a medal at the U-20 World Junior Championship. They placed 6th in the 1990 tournament, and that’s their best performance. Recently, they won a gold medal in Division I-A in 2026.

Prediction About the Norway Team in the 2027 Edition

Norway’s goal is clear: stay in the top division. The December 30 match against Latvia will likely decide which team goes to the relegation game. Canada, Czechia, and Switzerland are out of reach. We predict Norway beats Latvia, finishes fourth in Group B, and stays up.

Conclusion

Team Norway returns to the 2027 World Junior Championship with up to nine eligible returnees from the Division I Group A gold-winning squad. Their goal is to stay in the top division. Staying in the top division would be a strong result for Norway in 2027.
