Key Players to Watch
David Lewandowski (LW – Edmonton Oilers)
Lewandowski is Germany’s most dangerous forward and top returning scorer. Edmonton selected him 117th overall in 2025. He scored three points in the 2026 relegation game.
Maxim Schäfer (LW – Washington Capitals)
Washington drafted him 96th overall in 2025. Schäfer is the highest-drafted German in this age group. He scored twice in a 2026 relegation game. His height is 6’3″, and he now plays for Cape Breton in the QMJHL.
Carlos Händel (D – Montreal Canadiens)
Händel is Germany’s only drafted defenseman in this group. Montreal drafted him 177th overall in 2025. He recorded three assists during the relegation match against Denmark in 2026.
Max Calce (C – 2027 Draft Eligible)
Calce is a bright young German talent. He was born in 2009 and already plays for Adler Mannheim in the DEL. He is a top candidate for the 2027 NHL Draft, and his skill could make him Germany’s future star.
Lukas Stuhrmann (G – 2027 Draft Eligible)
Stuhrmann returns as Germany’s likely starting goaltender. He played in the 2026 tournament in Minnesota. He now faces seasoned professional shooters with RoKi in Mestis (Finland’s second division). His experience brings valuable stability to Germany in net.
Tobias Krestan (RW – Los Angeles Kings)
Krestan is the only German selected in the 2026 NHL Draft. Los Angeles picked him 209th overall in the seventh round. He scored for the U20 team against Slovakia in August. The 6’2″ winger brings size to Germany’s attack.

Prediction About the Germany Team in the 2027 Edition
German team’s goal is to stay in the top division. The group is very strong, with the USA, Sweden, and Finland all in the medal hunt. We predict Germany finishes fifth and wins the relegation game.
Conclusion
Germany may lack star power, but they never lack fight. Eight straight top-division tournaments prove the program’s growth. If the young core overachieves in Red Deer, a quarterfinal run is possible. Check back in December for the official roster.
